HYPNOTHERAPY, THE BRAIN AND TRAUMA
When in a relaxed, focused state, the brain can access the subconscious without the heightened arousal of the amygdala, the area responsible for the fight-or-flight response. Hypnotherapy helps soothe the amygdala’s reaction to trauma, allowing the brain to finally process past negative experiences. Additionally, hypnosis encourages neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new neural connections, enabling you to reframe traumatic memories and reinforce positive thought patterns.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE SESSION
Instead of dwelling on the past, we connect with a vision of what life will look like beyond trauma. In the relaxed state of hypnosis, your subconscious mind is more open to change, making it possible to rewrite limiting beliefs, access inner resilience, and build pathways toward a brighter future. We begin by identifying a clear goal and having a discussion of what you want your life to look like and what you would like to gain from the session. This will gently be followed by hypnosis, where these past experiences will be processed, using hypnosis techniques specifically designed for resolving trauma. The hypnosis will take up a majority of the session.
Please note - you do not have to tell me what the negative experience is that you wish to resolve.
BENEFITS OF SOLUTION FOCUSED HYPNOTHERAPY FOR TRAUMA RECOVERY
Calms the fight-or-flight response -Trauma often leaves the amygdala, the brain's “alarm system,” in a heightened state. Hypnotherapy helps calm this response, gently allowing the brain to feel safe and relaxed to process negative experiences.
Supports neuroplasticity for new thought patterns - Hypnotherapy taps into the brain’s neuroplasticity, the ability to form new neural pathways. By focusing on positive goals and outcomes, we’re essentially “rewiring” the brain to adopt healthier responses and perspectives. This process helps shift how you think, feel, and react.
Provides a safe, non-invasive approach to trauma processing - Solution focused hypnotherapy does not require you to re-live trauma but instead focuses on your strengths, goals and future. This makes it a gentle yet effective path for healing, especially for those who find traditional trauma processing overwhelming.
Shifts focus to personal strengths and encourages personal agency and empowerment - A large part of the session involves recognizing and building on existing strengths and coping skills, shifting focus away from limitations or problems. Due to its client centered approach, the focus is on what works for you. enhancing your sense of control, boosting your confidence and independence as you take active steps toward healing.
WHY I WORK WITH TRAUMA
I noticed a commonality between a large number of my clients - a lot of them were still living in the past. These were past negative childhood experiences, criticisms, events that happened to them etc. No matter how long ago these experiences took place, they still felt present. These experiences were etched into their subconscious and still played an influence on their thoughts, behaviors and how they viewed and felt about themselves. Utilizing techniques in hypnotherapy designed to help process these experiences, the results were remarkable. I felt honored and joyous to have watched these transformations and I look forward towards others finding this sense of freedom.
